Snowpocalypse (Snarmageddon?  Snownami?) ‘10 continues!  Friday’s storm dumped a couple feet of powder on Park Slope and provided us with an opportunity to bust out the sled we found on the street a few weeks ago.  We hit Prospect Park around midnight, and there were a fair number of other sledding parties as well as some fresh ski tracks.  I’m pining for a St. Bernard.

This is my very good friend Shane. He and I used to work together at a now defunct L.A. weekly. It was his birthday this weekend and I bought him this leopard-print Snuggie. The bartender made a bit of a stink about bringing it in, saying we were “dripping irony all over the floor.” He quickly changed his tune when he saw how much joy it brought to his patrons. You’re welcome Akbar!

A weekend trip to Boston is a good idea for several reasons, primary among them being oysters.  There’s also Bobby from Boston, a vintage store that carries the best selection of dapper menswear I’ve ever seen.  One of the highlights of the weekend was a trip to the Harvard Museum of Natural History, an odd experience because it’s a slightly fishy-smelling simulacrum of my favorite New York museum.  Although come to think of it, that fishy smell might be better attributed to the visably decaying taxidermy on display.  The museum is home to many specimens that were preserved by zoology pioneers in the late 19th century and then… left to hang out.  The results are not pretty, but they sure are pungent.

Due to severe illness, I spent the entire weekend in bed watching movies. I saw The Reader, Gigantic, American Psycho, Citizen Ruth, Swimming With Sharks and Legally Blonde. The latter is an old favorite I’ve seen many a time, but every other film I watched was a new experience. Here are a few things I came to terms with:

* May/December romances are inherently difficult and rarely work out.

* Kate Winslet most certainly deserved the Academy Award she won.

* Zooey Deschanel will never be taken seriously as an actress because her performances appear deceptively effortless.

* I think I might want to have a child someday.

* People are never as boring as they might seem.

* Everyone has at least one secret that would completely destroy them if anyone found out.

* Some people never get their shit together.

* I have a debilitating fear of religious Americans.

* I completely forgot how rough a town Hollywood can be.

* Contrary to what I always believed, I’m more of a realist than a romantic.

* Movies never cease to elicit introspection.

We've been remiss

A little departure here from our normal format, but perhaps you watched the Superbowl this weekend?  And perhaps you were a little peeved by a particularly off-putting Dodge Charger commercial?  Check out my response.

Commercials aside, I had a blast at my No Boyz Allowed Superbowl party.  Three types of homemade dip, need I say more?  And I devised a Superbowl bingo game featuring squares such as, “Two point conversion” (check), “Haiti reference” (check), and “Shannon Sharpe has a marginal grasp on the English language” (double check).

Growing up, three fictional television characters played an integral role in molding the Jell-O jiggler that is me. Lucy Ricardo, Dorothy Zbornak and Pee Wee Herman. So, when I heard about his live show taking place at the Nokia Theatre, I thought to myself, “What better way to re-live my childhood?” It was even better than I had remembered. I’ve taken to singing “I am the luckiest boy in the world” every morning. Oh! I also started a new blog called “Misanthropy Loathes Company” with my other best gal pal Lester Brathwaite. You’re welcome!
