In Maine for the long weekend. Can’t talk now, mouth full of lobstah, hands greasy with drawn buttah.

Last rehearsal for the Museum Proper is now over.  Taking the “holiday” to make minor repairs, and to put WHEELS on a puppet’s FACE.

How did Fire Island get its name?  Choose your favorite.

  • “Fire Island” is a corruption of “Five Islands,” a reference to the number of islands around the Fire Island inlet.
  • Autumnal sunsets cast a fiery glow over the island.
  • Promiscuous gay revelers return to New York with an unpleasant burning sensation in their loins.
  • In the 1850’s, pirates lit fires along the shore in an attempt to lure ships to the island.
  • Poison ivy, indigenous to the island, sets your skin aflame.
  • Early European settlers ran off the natives by setting their villages on fire.  To this day, the island remains a haven for white people.

The Museum Proper at Maker Faire, San Mateo County Fairgrounds. We tried to eat the 1700 lb spider, but it was too tough - we let the giant cardboard robot pet us on the head, though he seemed timid about our teeth.

My friend Rachael just graduated from med school, officially becoming the first person (and by “person” I mean peer) I know to become a doctor.  I’ve always thought of doctors as, you know, old people, and the fact that they’re old makes them qualified to be doctors.  It’s somewhat terrifying to think that a contemporary of mine, someone who was reading The Baby-Sitters Club while snacking on Gushers less than two decades ago, is now legally able to practice medicine.  That being said, I’m sure RB is going to make a great MD.  We fêted her accomplishment at a chachy bar that offered “a bowl o’ bacon” as an appetizer.  And what bowl o’ bacon would be complete without blue cheese and maple syrup dipping sauces?  Rachael to cardiology…

Namie Amuro. Iron Giant. Dressing up for the internet.

Two legs, one dress form, one proboscis, all in cardboard. Tamaranai.

Haven’t left the house in days. The Count of Monte Cristo. Speed it up boy, dare ni mo norasenai, let me drive you down the wrong street.

Rather quiet around here. Wish I could eat art.

Reasons why my mom is the best (and yours is not)

  • She’s a lady scientist.  We need more of those.
  • What a fox! (see above)
  • She breast fed me for, like, forever, which has got to get annoying.
  • She always has time for ice cream.
  • She was tear gassed at Berkeley in ‘68 — what a rebel!
  • Okay, she was studying in her dorm when tear gas wafted through an open window — what a dedicated student!
  • Michael Douglas thinks she’s funny.
  • She not only sewed all my Halloween costumes, but also humored my oddball requests (banana slug, a carbon atom…)
  • Great legs.

Just finished the last “Museum Proper” rehearsals until the 29th - the Bandersnatch snapped in half in two places at 6:23pm tonight - thankfully I wasn’t underneath it.  So tired…  Declaring a moratorium on puppetry thoughts until Tuesday, but that’s like playing that game where you lose every time you think the words “brain ball.”
